Short Bio

Francesca Longhin got a Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Engineering (2019) and a Master Degree in Bioengineering (2021) at University of Padova. In October 2021 she started the PhD in Information Engineering. The PhD project aims to the construction of a clinical-purpose software for variant calling and variant functional annotation. It is an industrial PhD project co-financed by the University of Padova and AB ANALITICA, a company mainly dedicated to molecular diagnostics.

Research Interests

Francesca Longhin research activity is mainly centered in Bioinformatics and Clinical Genomics. She is currently working on the development of a clinical-use software for analyzing data generated through molecular tests applied to biological samples. Specifically, the software is based on a bioinformatic pipeline to identify genetic mutations which are present in the DNA of tumoral samples and assign them a clinical interpretation. She is also working on a simulator of realistic tumoral samples to be used for validation and optimization of the bioinformatic pipeline. Lastly, she developed a tool for real-time clinical interpretation of mutations that automatically searches the literature for clinical evidence supporting the pathogenicity (or benignity) of the mutation.
